. The Quetzal is the current monetary unit of legal use in Guatemala, was created during the government of President Jose Maria Orellana in 1925, when it replaced the Guatemalan peso. The Quetzal is divided into 100 cents. It should be noted that since its inception the Quetzal currency was 10 cents above the value of the US dollar, and in the mid-1980s, it fell and was positioned alongside the Dollar and, in that same decade underwent other changes, reaching early of the decade 2000 the Qtz. 7 and 8.30 for a Dollar, but recovered in a few months, remaining stable for over 15 years Qtz.7.50 for one US dollar, making it one of the first 30 more stable monetary units of Latin America and the World.
